Literacy Skills

These courses are designed for adults who are experiencing some challenges developing literacy skills. Perhaps they have a disability that is affecting their literacy skills, they are learning English, have a diagnosed learning difficulty or simply need a little extra help to develop reading, writing or spelling skills.

We offer three literacy courses. If you can't find what you are looking for, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Literacy Building Blocks

This course is for those developing literacy skills. They are still working towards reading. This course may cover topics such as

  • letter identification

  • the sounds that letters make

  • identifying simple and meaningful words

  • writing letters

Literacy Fundamentals

This program focuses on developing fundamental skills for spelling, reading, writing and comprehension. Topics covered may include:

  • blending sounds to make words

  • reading fluency

  • reading comprehension

  • enhancing vocabulary

  • problem solving when reading and spelling

  • grammar

  • writing

Literacy for Life Skills

This course is suited to individuals who have acquired some literacy skills and require ongoing practice to apply these skills in everyday life. Some topics may include

  • improving reading comprehension

  • enhancing vocabulary relevant to the individual

  • moving from reading simple words to reading words within sentences

  • developing writing skills to assist with completing forms and other work relevant paperwork.
